Nick, in a bar, witnesses a scene of jealousy between two lovers. The next day, the girl's body is found smashed on the sidewalk of her building. But Nick doesn't believe in suicide because the young woman had told him about the Black Cross, a mysterious criminal organization of which her lover is part... The Black Cross is a criminal organization at the service of criminals: it assists them, helps them escape, treats them. Nick Raider, injured in a firefight, takes advantage of the situation to try to defeat the organization from within, pretending to be a robber in need of immediate treatment.
