Alberto Ongaro

Alberto Ongaro (Venice, August 22, 1925 - Venice, March 23, 2018) was an Italian journalist and novelist as well as a prolific comics scriptwriter. In the postwar period he wrote the series Asso di Picche together with Hugo Pratt and Mario Faustinelli, then launched Junglemen (drawn by Dino Battaglia), a series later taken up by Pratt for the Argentine market. Following in Pratt's footsteps, he moved to Buenos Aires, where he stayed for seven years.

On his return to Italy, while continuing to write comics, he devoted himself to journalism (serving for four years as L'Europeo's London correspondent) and to the novel, winning the 1986 Premio Campiello with La partita. That same year four issues of Mister No bearing his name were published. In addition to numerous other stories of the Amazonian pilot, from 1992 to 2004 Ongaro wrote several issues of Nick Raider for Sergio Bonelli Editore, though he chose to sign them under the pseudonym Alfredo Nogara. He passed away in Venice on March 23, 2018.
