Nathan Never comes into possession of the only remaining copy of the film "2001: A Space Odyssey": the disclosure of the film would reveal the scam hatched by Marcus Hackman, founder of the sect of worshipers of the Black Monolith. Ash and Leonid, criminals in Hackman's service, are on the trail of the film, who kidnap Penelope Peabody, niece of Nathan's neighbours, to force Agent Alfa to hand over the film to them.
