As he is about to leave for a well-deserved holiday with Diana, Martin Mystere receives a phone call from a man desperately asking for his help. The man dies under suspicious circumstances, but first has time to point to an emoticon. The mystery never abandons Martin, even during his stay in Bermuda, and just as he wonders about their meaning, the Detective of the Impossible falls off a cliff and is reported lost at sea. Diana is shocked, unable to resign herself to her husband's disappearance and continues to have him searched for. Unbeknownst to everyone, Martin managed to save himself by landing on a small island, where to survive he is forced to improvise like a new Robinson Crusoe; but he doesn't know that, in the United States, there are those who plot so that he will never return home again...
