Zagor

The son of an army officer who retired to live as a pioneer in the woods of the Northeast,  Patrick Wilding  sees his parents killed by a band of  Abenaki Indians , led by  Solomon Kinsky . Taken in by a strange, wandering philosopher who calls himself  "Wandering" Fitzy  and who acts as his mentor, the boy grows up yearning for revenge. When he succeeds in achieving it, however, he discovers that his father had himself been an Indian massacrer and understands the relativity of the concepts of Good and Evil. This drives him to transform (with the help of a family of acrobats) into  Za-gor-te-nay  , or, more briefly,  Zagor : a sort of avenger always ready to side with the weak and oppressed, be they red, white, or black.

Having settled in a hut built on a small island surrounded by quicksand, in a swamp in the  Darkwood forest , Zagor begins his work of peacemaking, mythologized by the Indians who believe him to be an immortal spirit and respected by the whites who know his abilities well. Dressed in his unmistakable red Indian-style costume, with the Thunderbird symbol on his chest, he fights for Justice, using a pistol, but above all a stone axe that he wields with incredible mastery. Agile, strong, and athletic, Zagor uses these qualities to make people believe he is a messenger of peace from the Great Spirit.

Zagor is not a solitary and arrogant vigilante; he has numerous friends among trappers, sailors, and treasure hunters, and is ready to rush wherever he is needed, accompanied by the funny, hungry, and irresistible  Chico . His enemies range from Hellingen, the quintessential mad scientist, to the monstrous extraterrestrial race of the Akkronians, passing through vampires, druids, thugs, Vikings, Eskimos, werewolves, witches, but also unscrupulous assassins and classic criminal masterminds.
