A major boxing tournament is attracting numerous boxers from across the region and neighboring states to Portville. Among these, there is the young Fred Balance, promising student of a champion who has now retired from the ring, Rocky Thorpe, an old acquaintance of Zagor and Chico. But the meeting with the friend and the festive atmosphere that reigns over the town soon transform into a dramatic adventure for the Spirit with the Hatchet, called to face the sudden hostility of the red Indians of the nearby forest, who until recently had been considered peaceful, and to try to eradicate a gang of traffickers who supply the Indians with weapons. As if that wasn't enough, someone is plotting against Balance to lose the last fight, the one for which he is favored. While the plots of Cletus Serverance – the rich, unscrupulous man who had the daughter of Fred Balance, the favorite to win – loom over the Portville boxing tournament, in the forest the Red Indians, incited by Black Fist, arm themselves, preparing for the revolt. Busy on two fronts, Zagor investigates to find the kidnapped girl and fights to prevent a new shipment of rifles and whiskey from reaching the Indians...
