Case closed? Maybe not The faded Kate, a "sponge in a skirt" who hangs out at the Parisian Saloon in Elk City, who has become an intimate of the ranger Burt Keller, confides to Tex that her beloved - who died in mysterious circumstances during an undercover investigation - was not only following the trail of silver thefts against the Central Mining Company, but also that of the gut-busting dealers, poisoners of Indians! And Tex, thanks to a ruse devised with the Red Indian Kendo, gets hired as a gunslinger by the Nelson family, a disorderly clan of clandestine distillers.

Having lost their supplies of weapons and been left without horses following the incursions of the pards, the Utes and the Hualpai rebels - now trapped - are routed by the Cavalry: Yellow Dog, who wanted to exterminate the Navajos and remove the scalp of Eagle of the Night, is defeated in a duel, shaved clean and then abandoned in the middle of the desert. Some time later, having arrived incognito in Elk City in southern Oklahoma, Tex discovers that the whiskey sold by traffickers - accomplices of the cattle rustlers - has brutalized the local Indians, fueling a climate of tension.
