Ultima Thule
After losing track of Richter, Dexter Green and his loyal companion Yambo uncover the professor’s true ambition: to reassemble the legendary Atlantean artifact known as the Key of Knowledge, a device of unimaginable power capable of granting dominion over the world.
Richter has already recovered two of the four components: the Diadem of Dumuzi and the Bracelet of Aztlan. The third is said to be embedded in the Scepter of Tin-Hinan, currently held by Princess Marada of the Tuaregs and her ally Andrew Cain. The final piece lies hidden in the icy expanse of Iceland. And that’s precisely where Richter is headed, aboard his vessel, the Erebus.
To stop him, Dexter Green organizes a new expedition, boarding the ship Dragoon, captained by the valiant Honest Joe. Alongside Dexter and Yambo are Zagor, Chico, the clever young cabin boy Felix, and even King Guthrum and his band of modern-day Vikings, determined to rediscover the land of their ancestors.
Sailing from Tampa, Florida, the Dragoon stops in the Azores to pick up Dexter and Yambo, then heads deep into the misty North Atlantic a realm of legends, sea monsters, and brutal storms. Off the coast of Norway, they must brave the dreaded Maelstrom, a terrifying whirlpool that nearly swallows their ship whole.
Reaching the Faroe Islands, Richter’s towering servant Bork kidnaps Felix, while Zagor’s allies struggle with hostile locals who mistake them for pirates. Zagor gives chase alone, tracking the Erebus to Iceland’s storm-ridden shores.
Soon, the Dragoon also arrives, and the Vikings make a grand, thunderous entrance in Reykjavík, quickly neutralizing Richter’s ship. Meanwhile, Felix escapes into the wilds of Iceland, only to be caught again by Bork, who has grown fond of the boy. Zagor follows the villain’s caravan as they move toward Herdubreid, a dormant volcano revered as the “Throne of the Gods.”
In the frozen wastelands, Zagor encounters the legendary outlaws of the Hidden Valley, former followers of Richter betrayed and left for dead during a previous failed expedition to Herdubreid. Their leader is revealed to be Bork’s father, and upon learning the truth, Bork turns against Richter and joins Zagor’s side.
As Richter’s forces clash with King Guthrum’s Vikings and the outlaw rebels, the final confrontation unfolds deep within the volcano. Now in possession of the Sigil of Loki the third Atlantean artifact, Richter attempts to activate its immense destructive force. But in a desperate and heroic effort, Zagor triggers a cataclysmic collapse, burying the mad professor under tons of volcanic rock and putting an end to his dark quest… for now.
With three relics now recovered, only one piece of the Atlantean puzzle remains… and the fate of the world still hangs in the balance.
