La diabolica trappola

Having left Europe, Zagor returns to Darkwood and embraces Jenny again, one of the girls from Pleansant Point, secretly in love with him and determined to declare her feelings to him. He is unable to do so, however, because waiting for the Spirit with the Hatchet is also an ancient enemy who has woven a diabolical plot to carry out the cruelest of revenges! ...A deadly noose tightens around the Pleasant Point trading post in which our hero remains trapped, under the eyes of numerous of his friends who look on helplessly. The grip of the trap hatched by the diabolical Mortimer has just begun to tighten around Zagor... but it will soon prove to be no escape for the Spirit with the Hatchet, hunted by soldiers and accused of two crimes he did not commit! Fleeing into the forest, the hero of Darkwood is captured and locked in a cell, while his Mephistophelian enemy is preparing to implement a second part of the plan... The diabolical Mortimer managed to have Zagor accused of two crimes actually committed by him, those of a soldier and the rich businessman, Mister Humbert. The Spirit with the Hatchet is imprisoned at Pleasant Point under the custody of Captain Simpson's men, who have decided to hang him as quickly as possible. Mortimer, judging that his plan has now been successful, sets off in a canoe from the trading post. However, he is followed along the river by Jenny, one of the girls from Plesant Point, secretly in love with Zagor. Where is Mortimer headed? What else does he have in mind? Zagor, having managed to escape, sets out on the trail of the ruthless criminal, trying to reach him before he can harm Jenny... thus he discovers a further piece of the diabolical plot hatched against him... but he also has to clash with those who try to collect the bounty on their head!
