In the southern United States, Zagor and Chico rescue a runaway black slave named Toby, who is being hunted after fleeing a plantation. Toby’s hope is to reunite with his wife and daughter, who have already boarded a riverboat owned by a man named Baxter. The vessel is believed to ferry escaped slaves to freedom in the North.
