A lawyer hunted by loan sharks decides to take his own life just as his persecutors are arriving to "solicit" payments. Even though it is clearly a suicide, Nick begins an investigation to discover the reasons that led the man to this insane act. It is the suicide's ex-wife who puts the agents on the right track: the man was an avid gambler and had almost certainly turned to some loan shark. A private drama which, unfortunately, increasingly takes on the contours of a social plague...
