A tireless collector of Scottish origin, an ax with mysterious powers and some old dime-novels, those economical adventure publications so popular two centuries ago, centered on a picturesque man from the Darkweed woods... How much truth is there in the legends that speak of Za-The-Nay, the Man with the Axe? Martin and Java don't need anything else to go hunting and follow the faint traces of the myth there, at Bird Center, where it all seems to have begun! What are the thugs in the pay of the sinister Virus looking for under Za-Te-Nay's hut? And, above all, why? Having miraculously escaped death thanks to the intervention of a pot-bellied Mexican, who introduces himself as Colonel Martínez, the courageous "Man with the Hatchet" faces his enemy with extreme determination. But what if he had the wrong target? According to the old guest of an old people's home in Bird Center, which Martin and Java encounter in the present day, Virus would have been a benefactor, indeed a true tutelary deity of the world...
