In the village of Hoosik, Zagor and Chico reunite with Bat Batterton, who is escorting a collection of Celtic relics discovered by Professor Mac Leod near the ancient Stone-Hill dolmen. But the region is under siege: mysterious, oddly dressed figures are terrorizing the area, and even Bat’s own men turn against their friends. The culprit? Kandrax the Druid, who has miraculously survived his previous encounter with Zagor and now commands a growing army of mind-controlled thralls.

Escaping an ambush, Zagor and Chico meet Musky-Han, chief of the Wampanoag, who reveals that many of his tribesmen were enslaved and forced to help build a new Celtic stronghold, unearthed during Mac Leod’s archaeological dig.

Zagor infiltrates the eerie fortress, only to be attacked by his own allies Chico, Bat, Mac Leod, and even Margie, all now under Kandrax’s control. The Spirit with the Hatchet manages to subdue them without harm and opens the way for the Wampanoag to storm the castle.

In a final, fierce duel, Zagor faces Kandrax once again. With a decisive strike from his hatchet, the druid is defeated, his spirit dissipates into the wind, and his physical form crumbles to dust. The threat of Kandrax is ended… for now.
