In a saloon in Galveston, Zagor and Chico meet Guitar Jim, now determined to get back on the right path. But the mysterious Julio Ordoñez also arrives at the club, recruiting volunteers to go to Solitude Valley where, according to him, he intends to find an old friend named Medina. The trail towards the hinterland is threatened by Apaches and only a large group of armed men can hope to travel it unscathed. Guitar Jim offers to join the expedition, while the Spirit with the Hatchet has an argument with Ordoñez's men and Guitar Jim unexpectedly hits him from behind. Is he still a criminal, then? The answer will be clear (but not without nuances) when Zagor joins him in the mountains of the interior, arriving just in time to save him and the others in the group from the fury of the Apaches... and to discover that the red Indians are not the most treacherous adversaries!
