A funeral in windy Wackett is an opportunity for Tex to recall a tragic episode from his past: the great raid of the Comanches led by Quanah Parker, Tonkawa and Buffalo Chief to drive the settlers out of the Texas territories. Gathering the defenseless peasants is not easy and many will fall victim to the Comanche fury; furthermore, the group of fleeing settlers is joined by a patrol of soldiers escorting a team of convicts. And, as in the prophecy, the wolf and the lamb will sleep together, even if at a safe distance, waiting for the attack of the red warriors... The road that leads to Fort Davis, and to safety, is under the control of some Comanche bands. For Tex and the unusual company of settlers and convicts who find themselves under his protection there is only one solution: to go back, trying to avoid contact with Aquila Bianca and his warriors. The entire territory seems to be in Comanche hands, and the only hope for the fleeing group is to reach Fort Quitman, on the border with Mexico... Closed within the deserted walls of Fort Quitman, side by side, the settlers and convicts led by Tex constitute the last barrier to the invasion of the Comanche bands. The ranger has no choice but to arm the prisoners, but how can he trust the word of men who the world has declared bandits? As always, evil and good go hand in hand, and a sprout of redemption can also be born from the seed of betrayal. So, at least, it was for the man who now lies in his grave, there on Wackett's "boot hill"...
