A letter from Kit Carson pushes Tex to show up, under the false name of Rod Nelson, at the "Bar-T" ranch. Something shady is happening around the widow Delaney's property, targeted by sinister businessmen operating in the shadows, starting from nearby Adairville. After getting hired as a herdsman, it doesn't take Tex long to stir things up and bring to light the names of those who do everything to take over the "Bar-T", its land and its livestock...

In a secret valley inside the extinct volcano called Mount of the Vultures lives a colony of Aztec survivors who for generations have enslaved a tribe of Pima Indians to make regular sacrifices to the Sun God . This time they chose the daughter of the Pima chief and a boy from the outside world: Kit Willer . However, they have come to terms without the two fathers: a Tex determined to do everything and a slave leader now ready to rebel, who, supported by a "reformist" faction of Aztecs, will leave no stone unturned to save the two boys and overthrow the tyrannical rule of the High Priest.

This adventure is the latest in what we might call Kit Willer's "teaching cycle," a series of stories that saw father and son touring the American Southwest together.

Kit Carson is too busy to help the widow of an old friend. It is therefore natural to ask for the help of Tex . His job is to save Nellie Delaney's ranch, the object of the shady designs of an overbearing landowner, Oscar Brawley. As soon as Tex arrives, sparks fly.

In this adventure, Freccia Rossa, chief of the Navajos and Kit's grandfather dies, Tex is appointed chief in his place without any problems (as we will know, there will be some disputes later).
