This story is a direct continuation of the previous adventure and begins with Tex resting after being wounded in a skirmish with the Dalton gang. After resting, Tex and Tiger Jack arrive in the Gila Mountain area where they encounter a mysterious totem and a sacrifice. Tiger Jack realizes that it is about the Yaquis and the Puma God, while Tex immediately realizes that some kind of fraud is involved and wants to shed light on the mystery by going to the Yaqui village. Tiger Jack doesn't like interfering with the story, but Tex is the boss and the adventure begins!

The Yaqui Indians make their second appearance, their first appearance was in Mexico in Adventure 14: "Lupe, la messicana", and here they make their first appearance in the United States.
