Having fallen in love with Captain McKinley, the young blackfoot Ayta gives him a yellow metal stone found along with many others on the bed of the stream that flows near the village not far from Fort Kenton. Determined to take possession of it, with a group of trusted men, McKinley deserted by exterminating the village and fleeing with the stolen gold or, at least, this is the official version supported by Colonel Pircher, and all the evidence seems to prove him right... This is what Chief Kewak and the few Blackfoot warriors who survived the village massacre also maintain, who now have no other purpose than revenge against all the whites of Fort Kenton! The deserters are on the run, Pircher chases them, Kewak is determined to exterminate everyone, dying in the process. But the truth is another, completely different. And Zagor intends to discover it.
