Akebe, the young Shawnee shaman, has the ability to predict future events. When a warlike warrior named Wakuta and his allies hatch a plan to drag the Shawnee into war against the whites, Akebe has a vision that shows him how that event will bring destruction to all of Darkwood. Despite having escaped death only thanks to Zagor's intervention, a new dramatic vision will push the shaman to fear that the Spirit with the Ax is also involved in the conspiracy, and to trust only the woman he loves: Sooleawa. Someone is plotting in the shadows to drag Great Britain and the United States into a new war that would collapse the fragile political balance of the Old Continent. The forests of the North, where the plot is about to begin, have become the crossroads of spies and secret agents, while a group of unscrupulous mercenaries is ready to deliver the first, deadly blow that will bring the two countries to the brink of war. Only Zagor, together with a handful of heroic Hurons and a former soldier with a tormented past, can unravel the diabolical intrigue and avoid a catastrophe.
