A cruel war is underway in the Balkans. The soldiers led by Kurjak, who have the task of settling in the country of Yorvolak, are massacred by mysterious supernatural assassins who are thirsty for blood. Kurjak calls for help from Harlan Draka, a man who goes around the villages pretending to be a dampyr, a vampire slayer. From Tesla, an undead taken prisoner, Harlan discovers that he really is a dampyr. His father was a Master of the Night, that is, a vampire of a non-human race... In a besieged city that looks a lot like Sarajevo, Harlan and his companions search for the secret refuge of Gorka, the Master of the Night who kept Tesla enslaved. In the course of his quest, Harlan learns more about himself and his powers, Kurjak learns who his true enemies are, and Tesla learns to be free...
