While tidying up his apartment in anticipation of a move, Nick discovers a letter addressed to him dating back six months, yet to be opened. The sender is Lorna Butler, the former lover of Nick's late father. The woman asks Nick for help in discovering the killer of her young daughter, a half-sister that the agent has never met. Nick discovers that Lorna, in the meantime, has also met her death and rushes to Northport, where the woman lived, to unmask the killer...
