Nathan Never is assigned to investigate the death of a Space Infantry cadet named John Hartman. Nathan, under the false identity of Lieutenant Noah Bright, enters Armstrong Academy as head of a group of cadets. Agent Alfa soon discovers that a second group of cadets, trained by Captain Susan Connery, is recording excessively brilliant scores in exercises... During an exercise, Captain Connery risks accidentally killing a cadet from Nathan Never's group. Agent Alfa thus discovers that the cadets trained by Connery are being administered polychloric euridal, an enhancing drug with mutagenic effects, in order to make them become invincible and thus counteract the space infantry trained on the orbiting stations. When she realizes that Nathan has discovered her plan, Susan Connery has him captured and gives him one last challenge...
