Vendetta vudu
After arriving in Louisiana, Zagor, Chico, and Digging Bill meet the beautiful adventuress Gambit and clash with the Vlandingue a secret society that practices voodoo and has turned Jacques, the son of wealthy Eric Lassalle, into a zombie. Zagor himself is marked with a wanga and condemned to death. Soon after, he collapses and dies, leaving his friends devastated.
In truth, Zagor has only drunk a potion given to him by the voodoo priestess Marie Laveau, which puts him into a state of catalepsy. Believed dead, he is placed in a coffin and buried alive. Marie Laveau takes possession of his body and revives him, revealing that she is the leader of the Vlandingue. She seeks revenge against Eric Lassalle who, back when they were lovers and pirates sailing with the legendary Jean Laffitte, betrayed the captain to steal his fortune. The crew of the Pride was massacred and Marie was the only survivor.
Marie Laveau now dreams of rebuilding the ancient and bloody empire of Songhay and wants Zagor, whom she calls the new Damballah, to rule by her side. To achieve this, she summons the powerful demon Maitre Carrefour from the realm of the Beyond, raising the dead sailors of the Pride to attack Lassalle and his allies. But Zagor breaks free of her control and brings the terrifying situation to an end.
After sharing a passionate moment with Gambit, Zagor returns to Darkwood with Chico. Digging Bill stays behind in Louisiana. Meanwhile, Marie Laveau has mysteriously survived, and Maitre Carrefour remains free to roam our world…
