Zagor and Cico are returning to the swamp after their journey north. Cico has bought a trumpet, but he is definitely not an expert player: Zagor orders him to stop playing it.

Having reached a prairie, Zagor hears the sound of Indians attacking. He finds Cayuga warriors attacking a wagon, but when he tries to stop them they seem to no longer recognize his authority over Darkwood. Zagor engages in battle, but Cico gets trapped on a horse and disappears and Zagor is forced to fall back to the wagon, surrounded by Indians. The situation seems desperate when the soldiers' trumpets are heard: the Cayugas run away, but in reality it is Cico with the trumpet.

Afterwards, Zagor and Cico resume their journey towards the swamp.
