Zagor and Chico attempted to rebuild their hut, destroyed in the previous adventure, but the incredible Going-Going devoured all their tools! In Maysville, then, they meet two old acquaintances, the German scholars Kruger and Mayer, who, together with their colleague Weiser, are headed to a practically unexplored region of Missouri to study inexplicable genetic mutations in the local fauna. When the two set off, Zagor and Chico discover that their guides are, in reality, criminals!
