In the swamps of New Orleans, the sinister Martin Stingo, accomplice of the shady Captain Curtiz of Nantucket, maneuvers the mad Pierre de la Rochelle (who plans Louisiana's independence from the USA) and the black rebels of Manbela who worship the Great Alligator, who dream of a land where they can be free. The plan of Stingo, superior of the shipowner and landowner Julien de la Rochelle, Pierre's brother, is to cold his master by placing the blame on the blacks, to steal his possessions! Everything would have gone smoothly if Sheriff Nat Mac Kennet hadn't asked the pards for help!

In the canyon of the lost ship, the pards defend themselves from the poisoned darts of the Pimas and from the dynamite of the shady Velarde, who dies at the hands of one of his Indians. The rangers and Professor Doberado, tracked down on behalf of El Morisco, face the Chinese of the secret valley and the roaring waters of an underground river! Some time later, Nat Mac Kennet summons Tex to New Orleans: the mad Pierre de la Rochelle, a maniac for independence, has escaped from the mental hospital. And in the swamps, alligators started eating more people than usual!
