With the burning of his ranch, the criminal career of the raider John Safford ends. The following summer, Tex and Carson investigate a gang of robbers who carry out raids armed with Gatlings, a deadly machine gun stolen from Fort Huachuca thanks to the corrupt Sergeant Holbrook. The leader of the thugs is the desperado Contreras, linked to the ranchero Don Guillermo and his future son-in-law, the former captain Lafferty. But, confiding in the pards, Lafferty claims to be still in the army and to act undercover to spy on the rich hidalgo who dreams of reconquering his lands now annexed to Arizona!
