Tex and Carson, having overcome the rapids of the Rio Janos, entrust the Apache families to the friars of the Ascensión mission. Months later, heading to Jackson to investigate the death of the ranger Malone, the pards save a certain Larsen from three bad guys. The local underworld, moved by the sinister Butler on behalf of a mysterious figure, is agitated. A henchman is used by the boss as a scapegoat to close the Malone case, which seems to be connected to a crime of cannibalism that had involved Larsen himself, the only survivor of a caravan stranded on the Teton Range the previous winter.

A black hood hides the horribly disfigured face of the scientist Friederich Steiner. The scholar is now the sakem of the Ghundar, Indians mutated by the radiation emitted by an ancient rocket of reptilian aliens that landed on Mount Rainier, and now the madman threatens the pards, his prisoners. But the disturbing kingdom of death founded by Steiner is destined to collapse! The following summer, the Apaches are about to be deported to Florida on a military convoy: Tex and Carson agree with Geronimo and Ulzana to block the train of shame.
