The Apaches of Cochise save the pards from the ferocious Red Wolves and attack with incendiary arrows what remains of the bloodthirsty Paul Balder's ranch, thus avenging the Indians killed by the scoundrel when he was a scalp hunter: the Carnicero, trapped by the fire, has no choice but to shoot himself in the temple. Months later, having arrived in Washington to obtain assurances from Ely Parker on the boundaries of the Navajo reservation, Tex and Carson stumble upon a plot hatched against the presidential candidate Hayes, an honest politician who scares many scoundrels in the capital.

While the abyss of hell opens up for Paco Cardenas, his brother José, overwhelmed by a herd of rampaging cattle, expires asking for forgiveness from Father Matías, the friar whom the two had killed to steal the treasure of the Santa Cruz mission. Some time later, near Nogales, the former scalp hunter Paul Balder - known as El Carnicero - enlarges his ranch by having a gang of hooded men chase away the honest neighboring farmers. Tex and Carson pose as the new owners of one of the farms.
