From Silverton to Durango, Tex and his pards investigate the robberies that undermine the Golden Well. They find some allies, such as Pop, an elderly stableman who acts as an informant, but there are just as many bad guys who try to get rid of them, first of all Horan, the scoundrel who had stolen the ring with the eagle and the thunderbolt from the body of the killed agent. The robbers are all on the payroll of the banker Paul Brady: he finances the company with one hand and the robbery with the other, blackmailing the cowardly Sam Walcott, John's brother, co-owner of the mines... and a spy, for gambling debts!

A couple of Pinkerton agents were killed during the investigation and a ring decorated with an eagle and a thunderbolt was taken from one of the two bodies.
