And when Carson, Kit and Tiger Jack arrive in Chihuahua, the scoundrels put Tex against the wall out of provocation and ensure that the grace obtained by Montales narrowly saves him. Informed by Father Elías, a man from Galindez, that the conversations in the parlor are being spied on, the pards make Olivera believe that the escape will take place during Tex's transfer to the Escalante penitentiary, aiming instead to free him directly from the governorship!

Brooke and Cantrell, two shady speculators from Tucson, ally themselves with the governor of the state of Chihuahua Zamora and his henchman, the sad Colonel Olivera, to get rid of Tex, promising them weapons to conquer Sonora. With a false message from Montales, Willer is lured into a trap, accused of espionage and murder, and thrown in prison! The final objective of the conspirators (including the vengeful general Velasco, mastermind of an old failed plot) is to push Montales to help his friend escape and then be able to eliminate him with all the trappings of the law!
