Thanks to a sleeping pill thrown into the fire of their bivouac by her faithful Sinaguas, the witch Zhenda imprisons the pards in the Grand Canyon, where the primitive tribe she subjugated has refuge. And while Tiger Jack leaves with a group of Navajos to rescue his friends, Sagua rebels against his mother, guilty of his wife's death, and frees Tex, Carson and Kit. The three thus flee along an underground labyrinth, where they face a pack of ferocious monitor lizards that populate a lost forest, and see the light again just before diving into the Colorado!

While Gros-Jean escapes from the Blackfeet camp thanks to an Indian friend, the pards and Jim Brandon force Captain Tanakis, who was holding them prisoner on the Arrow boat, in the pay of the saboteurs of the Canadian transcontinental railway, to come out into the open. Having found Gros-Jean, our men explode the scoundrels' magazine and, in Ottawa, the corrupt minister Fairbanks ends up behind bars. Some time later, on the Navajo reservation, the witch Zhenda returns from oblivion and kidnaps her son Sagua, after killing his wife by having her torn to pieces by a ferocious panther!
