Hot on the heels of a pack of Yaqui rebels, Tex falls into the clutches of Tom Boker's criminals and suffers torture: the Yaquis themselves save him, suddenly attacking the ghost village where the gang of escaped prisoners was holed up. The Indians are decimated and Boker soon joins them in the underworld. Some time later, having saved two scouts from a cloud of angry Piutes, the pards learn that the Wovoka sorcerer, the Red Prophet, is inciting numerous tribes to revolt, promising them invulnerability and the advent of a messiah who will redeem the Indians.
