A pack of escaped Apaches carries out massacres on the edge of the Navajo reservation! Kit Willer, having seen his best Indian friend killed, falls into a state of melancholy: to cheer him up, the photographer O'Sullivan urges him to follow him on a scientific expedition headed to the Isthmus of Panama with an escort of marines to study the possibility of opening a canal.
