The re-enactment of Tex's past continues with the story of the hell that broke loose in Union City: collapsed bridges, uprooted tracks, blown up water tanks, interrupted telegraph lines, the entire city on fire! The guerrilla and sabotage actions of Tex and "Damned" Dick against the Southerners continue without stopping, until the impossible capture of Fort Henry. But the tragic face of war is revealed when, in the Sarabande of Shiloh, the two pards found a friend on the opposing front, who died in their arms on the battlefield while a red sunset tinged everything with the color of blood.

The curtain also falls on Don Benavides, accomplice of the Black Dragon: he dies in his ranch conquered by the pards and the Mexican federals. Some time later, in a saloon in Abilene, Tex meets "Damned" Dick Dayton, his comrade at the time of the Civil War: the two recall their adventures, starting the story when they were simple cowboys. Having saved the herd from the clutches of the Southerners, Dick and Tex helped a Union spy who was being followed by a Confederate patrol. Once the soldier died, the two friends took it upon themselves to bring the precious war information to the Northerners on his behalf.
