In the desert, just south of the Gila River, an army patrol that was supposed to bring last months' wages to Fort Gila was attacked, its men brutally killed and then scalped. The traces, even those left by the murderers' horses, suggest an ambush by the Indians in the area, but the fact that the money has disappeared makes Tex and Carson suspicious and, starting to investigate, they become convinced that the greed of the whites may be hidden behind the massacre, rather than the ferocity of the red Indians... Tex and Carson are on the trail of those responsible for the theft of the wages of the men of Fort Gila, but before continuing on the trail that will lead them to find the culprits they will have to try to rescue a patrol of blue jackets. The soldiers have barricaded themselves inside the large dry well of Sandy Well and the Yaqui Indians are besieging them.
