On the sailing ship Phoenix, off the coast of New Orleans, a British major dies while begging the captain to give his daughter an enormous diamond stolen from Akbar's rajah. Two sailors grab the precious stone and take refuge with Liza Montego, a sorceress who brings the stone to her beloved gambler Vandeleur. The couple escapes by boat, leaving the two drug-addicted sailors to Sheriff Nat Mac Kennet! Also traveling on the boat are Tex, Carson and Patterman, a gambling dealer to whom Vandeleur owes money. The pards, warned by telegraph by Nat, investigate, while Patterman eliminates Liza and Vandeleur and gets rid of one of his henchmen. The gambling dealer Patterman divides Louisiana into areas of influence with two other big shots of the gambling house racket, waiting to sell Akbar's priceless diamond, become very powerful and throw his shady associates into the sea! The pards, having escaped the numerous ambushes of Patterman's accomplices and henchmen, hunt the boss in the swamps, and while the infamous man sinks into the quicksand, Tex is just in time to save the gem from his outstretched hand!
