The sacred wampum saves the lives of Tex and Gros-Jean, who ended up in the hands of the Indians: the Dakotas recognize in Aquila della Notte the respected white chief of the Navajos. Several years have passed since the last adventure, and Tex now lives peacefully in the Navaja reserve! The arrival of Kit Carson with the news of the death of Arkansas Joe, a mutual friend of Tex and Carson (Kit Carson, Arkansas Joe and Tex were the first three Texas Rangers), means the beginning of a new adventure! Carson has a task for Tex - to ask him to go after the killers of Arkansas Joe, who have taken refuge in Canadian territory, which the rangers are not allowed to enter. Tex accepts the task, becomes a ranger again and embarks on a dangerous mission!

With 224 pages this is the longest Tex story so far.

This story also features Tex's son Kit who appears for the first time. Also first appearance of Tex's Canadian friends Jim Brandon and Gros-Jean.

Leaving the wounded Sergeant Brendon to recover from his wounds from the previous episode, Tex and Gros-Jean respond to a letter asking for help from Canadian police command in the far north of Canada. Arriving in the town of Dawson, they find out that the area is being terrorised by mysterious robbers who leave behind only bear tracks in the snow.
