In Boston, the city's jewelers show up in the theater with their best pieces to impress the Duchess Romanoff, who is loose-minded when it comes to buying precious objects. Intent on competing, none of them harbors any suspicion of the self-styled Duchess when she asks to take the jewels for her. Doubt comes too late: the fake Romanoff has now disappeared. Ken Parker enters the scene when "National" assigns him to be the bodyguard for a Texan rancher new to town.
