Ken, on his way to Buffalo to see his parents (whom he will meet in the next album), meets Charles Utter, a mysterious character affected by a progressive loss of vision and shortly after Sidney Barnett, a young gunslinger with high hopes determined to challenge duel the famous Wild Bill Hickok to "make a name for himself". The three decide to continue the journey to Helena together . Cornered by Ken's intuition, Utter soon confesses that he is in fact Hickok himself... The problem is that Barnett realizes it too. And what's worse, he doesn't seem to care much about the 'prince of gunslingers' eyesight...
The story takes place in the second half of April 1876.
Ken returns home after eight years of absence. On the exact same day , his old friend Dick also returns to Buffalo , followed by a cold and enigmatic guy in a bowler hat and a gang of unscrupulous gunslingers...
