Ken, accused, for the simple fact of being the only "foreigner" in town, of having committed theft in a Timber City store, is arrested and locked up in prison. To exonerate him, identifying the real culprit, will provide a family of funny and bizarre wandering artists.
Page 44: We learn that Ken was born in Buffalo , Wyoming on November 20, 1844.
In the last two pages it turns out that the whole story is nothing more than a "fairy tale" invented by Ken to entertain a school group.
Oliver Price, son of an army colonel, chooses to follow in his father's footsteps, regardless of his father's opposition, who would have liked to make him a lawyer. Enlisted as a private, Price is sent, by pure chance, to Fort Benton, the military garrison commanded by his father. The theft of an ammunition wagon by some Cheyennes, made possible by a lack of the young Price, would seem to offer the colonel the pretext to cut short his son's military career...
