The killing of a saxophonist, in whose safe a hot tape is found, leads Nick to investigate the kidnapping of the daughter of a Senate candidate, which occurred sixteen years earlier. It was an unsuspected jazz band, Nick now discovers, that kidnapped the little girl. News reports from the time say that no ransom was paid. So how come the saxophonist had four hundred thousand dollars in the bank? Meanwhile, the band's pianist is also found dead...
