At Cook Hospital, directed by the sinister Professor Victor Hicks, a ferocious criminal, John Smith, is admitted. Meanwhile, Nathan Never goes to the grave of his dead wife, Laura, and then to Synclair Asylum, a center for the treatment of mental illnesses, to visit his daughter Ann. During the visit, Dr. Leyla Duchateau, who is treating Ann, shows Nathan the drawings that her daughter has recently made: they remind Agent Alfa of tragic events from his past which had the super-villain Ned Mace as their protagonist... After discovering that the patient admitted to Cook Hospital under the name of John Smith is his enemy Ned Mace, Nathan (in the company of Dr. Duchateau) is targeted by Krazykat, a murderous truck driver hired by Professor Hicks. At the same time, Ned Mace, subjected to experiments by Hicks, manifests intense esp activity, coming into telepathic contact with Ann Never, who tries to reach him. Nathan will have to deal with his past...
