Three years have passed since the end of the conflict; in the East City, an enormous crater seems to testify - to everlasting memory - the stupidity of war. After the mysterious death of Sara McBain, Nathan Never was contacted by Senator Sawyer who wants Agent Alfa to be part of a "team" that will have the task of investigating the obvious contradictions presented by the story. The team, which operates "unofficially" directly under the senator, includes Mark Greenberg, of the forensic police, Vera Mills, IT expert and Wes Redding, head of the operational unit. From the beginning, during the investigation it becomes clear that the senator's doubts are not entirely without foundation: someone is in fact trying to eliminate the only witness to the incident The task force of which Nathan is part, led by Senator Sawyer, has now come to the conclusion that multi-billionaire Neil Bates, head of one of the most powerful industries specializing in genetic engineering research, is implicated in the mysterious death of prosecutor Mc Bain. While Nathan and his companions prepare to break into Bates' headquarters, Sawyer, with his health already undermined, has a serious crisis and the operation seems irremediably compromised.
