The situation between Earth and orbiting stations is one step away from falling into a bloody conflict. Now, that step has been taken with the destruction of some shuttles of nomadic space miners, the Drifters, by a fleet of warships from the Melpomene orbiting station. This act of war, however, was consummated in the presence of two witnesses, Sabrina Dorset and Billy Socket, two agronomists whose safety is now in the hands of the Alfa Agency, which sends its best agent to their rescue: Nathan Never! The war between the orbiting stations and Earth is upon us. The Melpomene fleet moves towards our planet, after having destroyed the enemy ship Antietam, which however had time to launch a message documenting, in front of the Security Council, the aggression that had taken place. Meanwhile, Darver calls a meeting during which he assigns Nathan Never, Legs, May and their other colleagues new destinations and new tasks, which will lead them into the heart of the action. The war between Earth and orbiting stations is now raging unstoppably; new fronts are opening up everywhere and all the contenders have started to move their pawns, weaving feverish strategies. Meanwhile, Nathan Never and his colleagues from Agenzia Alfa have reached the destinations assigned to them by Nadia Galya, head of the Earth Security Council The terrible war that will forever change the destinies of Nathan Never's world and the lives of our heroes, as well as those of the inhabitants of Earth and orbiting stations, is about to end. In cases like this, it's natural to wonder who comes out on top. A closer look, however, can only lead to one conclusion: nobody! Neither Earth, nor Melpomene. But some questions remain about the true aims of the war and many mysteries remain unsolved...
