What is Peter Mahoney doing in the world "beyond the stars...", together with Lucrezia, Caliendo, Scintillone and Cavallo, the quadruped philosopher? Well, to be honest, it's not like he's actually with them, on the contrary! He sits alone consulting an atlas from 1930, perhaps because it reminds him of the world in which he briefly lived... Yes, because Peter is a twelve-year-old boy, or rather, he is a boy who died at twelve years old, in 1932, in Chicago. Now, his reflection, the idea-memory that his slightly older brother Richard retains, cannot abandon that strange horizon and that even stranger company. At least until Richard, now eighty-one and almost blind, persists in resisting death. The fact is that the old and shabby Richard Mahoney, resident in Geneva, has a reason to grit his teeth: a nephew, Pierre, who has lost both his parents. A brave and smart boy in whom something of Peter seems to relive, and whose path has intertwined by pure chance with that of Napoleon...
