A woman is killed on a night marked by explosions and bombings of the Great War. Lieutenant Napoleone Di Carlo, grandfather of the entomologist detective, discovers the culprits, but does not report them. They are two soldiers destined to die, a few hours later, on the battlefield. Time passes, and someone is called to pay for that crime of many years before and that someone is Napoleon, protagonist of a story set in today's Italy, where what is accused is man's inability to administer justice
