Tarao has abandoned New Zealand, leaving behind a broken life and pods of whales that end up dying on the beaches. He has to deal with an internal demon, alcoholism, and with a temperamental sea god, Tangaroa, whose statue ended up in the window of a Geneva antique dealer, a friend of Napoleon. And it is to resume sculpture that the Maori arrives in cold Geneva, where he becomes friends with the entomologist detective. Together, the two face the beautiful and damned couple, Camille and Valdo, plus the sinister Van Cleef, in a story shrouded in the mists of a thousand mysteries, where everything and everyone seem constantly on the verge of disappearing, including Lucrezia, Caliendo and Scintillone
