Mister No is on holiday in Rio with his friend Patricia. He sees Doctor Sandy Wang again, whom he met during the war when she was a little girl. And he is assailed by the wave of memories. He tells Patricia about when he was sent to Guadalcanal in 1942. He had reunited with Alan Chambers, whom he already knew, and had met the tough Steve Mallory and Phil Mulligan, who he didn't like at first.
