A chain of impossible thefts throws museums into disarray: mysterious, incredibly long-lived individuals raid all existing versions of the "Isle of the Dead", the famous painting by the Swiss painter Arnold Böcklin. Perhaps it is a simple mania of die-hard collectors, but it is vain to hope so and the Detective of the Impossible knows it. How to stop thieves who can literally vanish into thin air? And what secret do the stolen paintings hide? Hans Von Balthasar, the alchemist, believed he had discovered the secret of immortality. But entelechy, the substance that he and his followers have taken, has side effects that only Böcklin's framework can counteract. They believed they would live forever, they believed they had the world in their hands, and instead only by crossing the threshold that leads to Elsewhere beyond the canvas can they escape the terrible curse that has become their life... A threshold that Mystère will also be forced to cross to unravel the knot of this dark enigma.
